How to read a house after dark

What the evening shows you about a house that a noon showing never will.

By Isabel Moreau, Estate Advisor

A pale living room with a fireplace

Most showings happen at midday. Most living happens at night. Visit the house you are considering twice.

Look at the light

Notice which rooms glow and which go flat. Warm, layered lighting is easy to add; a room that depends on daylight is not.

Listen

Traffic, neighbors and the house itself all sound different after dark.
